Pressure Treated Southern Yellow Pine
Different species of treated softwood are regionally available.
Southern Yellow Pine is primarily used in Western New York
- Southern Yellow Pine - Southern Pine is the most common deck framing material in eastern United States. It is rigid and strong. Southern Yellow Pine yields a high proportion of sapwood which works well to absorb preservative.
- Hem-fir – It is weaker and more likely to warp and split than Douglas fir, but more receptive to the preservatives.
- Red and Ponderosa Pine – Not as strong as Southern Yellow Pine, found in the Northern United States.
- Douglas fir – It is very strong and
is less prone to warping and spitting than Southern Yellow Pine. Material is generally found in the Western United States.
